Unspun and unbiased. These are the facts.

Austria’s supreme court ruled on Tuesday that same-sex couples can marry and that heterosexual couples can opt for a civil partnership beginning Jan. 1, 2019. The court ruling overturned a law that restricted same-sex couples to a civil union, deeming the law discriminatory in that it required individuals to disclose their sexual orientation. The case was heard by the supreme court after a same-sex couple in a legal partnership was denied marriage in Vienna and sued the government.

Twenty-five countries in the world, of which 16 are European, have legalized same-sex marriage.
